The Toronto Game Jam was held from May 4-6, and its purpose was to gather games creators together to make something in 48 hours. Every participant tries to have something complete at the end, starting from nothing. A little help was provided by floating helpers, but for the most part it was a game from scratch in a ridiculously short period of time.

XIQ is one of the successes, an abstract combination of Qix, shooters, and puzzle games. Move the cursor with the arrow keys, shoot out lines with W/A/S/D, and try to trap the invading triangles in a square of lines. The lines fade out after a few seconds, and the triangles are swarming the screen, so moving fast with a plan and strategy is the only way to survive. XIQ is a nifty little abstract bit of freeware fun, and even more amazing when the speed with which it was created is taken into account.

Check it out over here.

Namco Bandai released new details about the Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, currently in development for Xbox 360. Up to this point, each new installment has lived up to fans expectations and now that the franchise is entering next-gen territory, the developers are planning to up the ante.

Ace Combt 6 - Screen 5
Eye candy ftw!

If you guessed “eye-candy”, you’d only be half right. Ace Combat 6 isn’t just going to tingle those optic nerve centers, it’s going to reach out and constantly test your sense of tactical prowess. Expect non-stop, intense action that’s going to make Crimson Skies look like a junior grade flight simulation.

Summer’s approaching, and with that the summer blockbusters come with it. Having Michael Bay’s name inappropriately latched onto one of my fondest childhood memories nearly brought me to tears. His films are synonymously known for their over-the-top and sometimes unnecessary explosions, and also the co-starring of an obligatory hot chick. Having wiped my conscience clean of the potential failure of a movie that’s easily ten years too late, I plunged into what could be the suicide of one of the greatest TV shows ever, and viewed this trailer…

Freakin’ awesome!

Admit it… she’s the real reason you watch this show.

While I’d be a lot more thrilled for an on-demand release of the past season, Heroes fans can show off their support for the series with the release of new Theme and Gamer packs from the hit show. Taking a creative lead from the series, the graphically stunning images are rendered as paintings which foretell iconic events in the program’s mythology.

“Heroes has broken new ground in episodic storytelling and has resonated with an astonishingly broad audience, and certainly with the gamer community,” said Bill Kispert, Vice President and General Manager, Interactive, Universal Studios Digital Platforms Group. “We are excited that Xbox LIVE members will now be able to personalize their gameplaying experiences with authentic images from the “Heroes? universe.?

I’ll have to look into picking this content later in the week because Rush ‘n Attack and Xevious are hitting XBLA on Wednesday.
