If only this were an officially licensed product.

Now you too can play Halo 2 with your WiiRemote. All you need is a 360, a PS2 to 360 adapter, a microcontroller emulating a PS2 controller running custom firmware, and a PC running a custom Wii remote firmware. In other words, the closest you're gonna get is watching this video…

With how much people jump around in Halo, having to jerk the nunchuk to jump would likely lead to shoulder injury right quick…

DaveB sounds off once again.

So yeah… It's been a while since I've added my two cents to the dialog taking place here on GotSpace. You know, I've been sitting around, biting my tongue, and basically ducking and dodging every request by Bahn to contribute my thoughts and analysis. But you know what? The past few days have more or less pushed me beyond the precipice of temptation. I've reached critical mass, I've got some stuff I need to share, and… There is no and. Just a request for interested parties to listen. Smile

The first order of business in this revival of the "B-Side" has to do with the delay of Grand Theft Auto IV into "Q2" 2008. I think I speak for a lot of people, and the gamer in me, when I say this sucks. Oddly enough, the rational side of me tells a different story. It realizes that we really haven't seen much of the game. Usually with an upcoming GTA, we have months and months of screen shots, trailers and impressions. With IV, so far, we've had two trailers and maybe 15 screens. Something didn't smell quite right with its release looming mere months away. Taking that into account, this delay does not come as a surprise. And you know, I guess on the bright side, all of the really cool games coming out in the fall will no longer be overshadowed by it. Why do I think that its release would have overshadowed a lot of great games? Well, because I see GTAIV as being the first dramatic evolution in the series since GTAIII. While Vice City and San Andreas both had their merits and both did their "thing" equally as well, they didn't feel as earth-shattering as III did. IV, on the other hand, reeks of evolution. It oozes advancement. The game is going to be incredible. And as much as this may take away from my credibility as a critic on the series, this will be the first GTA game I buy. I've got my uber edition reserved because I love swag.

Moving right along…

News that gamers will be talking about for weeks to come.

The government of the People's "Republic" of China has received some pretty negative press lately.  Not too long ago, they were exporting dog food burdened with a really bad side effect known as "death."  As if that's not bad enough, instances of bribery and corruption have been on the rise in all levels of government.  Toss in the standard stories of human rights violations, add a pinch of the usual saber-rattling over Taiwan, and you're left with one hell of a public relations nightmare.  Can't a totalitarian regime get a break?

Given these political headaches, the world's largest communist state has turned to the one thing guaranteed to raise spirits:  video games.

That's right, kids!  The creators of the Cultural Revolution and the Tiananmen Square Massacre have created a PC game called Incorruptible Fighter.  According to the BBC, this game "allows players to get ahead by killing and torturing corrupt officials, while assisting the upstanding ones."  Do your job well and you are rewarded with a virtual Maoist utopia.

Scratch one "must own" title off your X-mas list.

Oh, that can't be fun.  Take Two announced today that what would have been its biggest game of the year is going to miss its ship date by a minimum of four months.  Creating a next-gen title of the scope demanded by GTA apparently required more grunt-work than anticipated, and Grand Theft Auto IV is now slated for fiscal quarter 2, 2008.  That would be some time between February and April to you and me, and well clear of the holiday shopping frenzy.  What kind of dent that makes in GTAIV's potential sales remains to be seen, but if the game isn't done then no force on earth is getting it to retail any earlier.

On the plus side, it's one less game vying for attention at the end of the year.  Speaking as a gamer with enough on his plate already, that's hardly anything I'm going to be complaining about.

Someone was bound to get offended by Resident Evil 5. One white guy on a killing spree in a third-world village filled with black zombie-like creatures isn't a particularly good image, despite nobody caring when the same white boy mowed down dozens of latino enemies. It's a big world, filled with many interesting places for zombie outbreaks, and expecting Leon to stay in Lilywhite Land is a bit much. Still, it was only a matter of time before the articles started.

The inevitable happened today. Kym Platt, one of the members of the Black Looks blog, posted her displeasure over the Resident Evil 5 imagery while displaying a lack of understanding of how the M rating works. "…this video game is marketed to children and young adults." isn't exactly true, but that's not really the point.

That's just so far, and doesn't count web sites I'm unfamiliar with or the innumerable threads in gaming forums the world over. I'd be very surprised if this didn't hit the mainstream news in the next day or two. It's summer, there isn't a whole lot is going on, and this would fill up column inches nicely.

The important thing here is that this is just a blog article. Or at least, it was a simple article until everyone decided to splatter this individual's viewpoint all over the web. I've got to admit, though, that I don't understand how an opinion written by someone who seems to believe all video games are for children is news. Kym Platt even goes so far as to admit that she doesn't know much about video games. She is, however, outraged, and apparently that's enough to make it news.

A slightly more informed opinion piece than the Black Looks commentary can be found over at Microscopiq. He cracks on the mojas in LocoRoco, though, so it probably shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Personal view- zombie-like creatures in (most likely) Africa being fought by current series protagonist Leon isn't racist. If you want to read racism into the game, by all means, have fun with it. Just be aware that it's all happening inside your own head, and don't try to tell me what a white imperialist bastard I am because I like having fun killing the undead of any ethnicity.
