Rumors have been swirling about a possible Xbox 360 price drop ever since Sony's pre-E3 PS3 price drop. Yesterday, the rumors got a shot of adrenaline when CheapAssGamer user DX posted the following image, depicting a $349 Xbox 360 Premium, on the CAG forums:
There are, however, a couple of inconsistencies in the image that set off some people's fake-detectors:
For one, the 360's price has no cents listed while everything else on the page does. Also, while the 360's price sports a $ symbol next to it, again, nothing else on the page does. That was enough to discredit the image in most people's minds.
But then today, a scan from a Toys 'R Us ad, this one coming from CAG UgamerX, again shows the price-dropped 360:
So we've either got confirmation or a rash of photoshoppers. Both ads are for the week of August 12th, so it won't be long until we know for sure.
Personally I'm hoping it's fake. A $50 price drop is pretty weak after 2 years on the market, especially with the alleged 65nm Falcon systems hitting this fall. If Microsoft drops the price now it is unlikely that they'd do so again before the holidays.
Unless, of course, Sony drops the price of the PS3 once more…

I’ll still cave and finally pick one up if it is only a $50 drop, although a cool hundred would be so much better…

EVERYONE should own a PS3 by the time MGS4 hits.
(That’s right… I said “everyone”).

Oh, come on! Even me! *Shrugs*
Ah, how the wondrous rumor mill strikes again. I was just thinking of purchasing an Elite, though this could force me back into thinking my decision over.
