Everyone has their own ideas about what makes a real man.

Rufus of SFIVSome say it’s the beard, others the rough voice, and maybe you’re one who favors the motorcycle riders. Although Rufus would probably break almost any set of wheels he sat on, he does have the facial hair and the overbearing presence of a real man. Who couldn’t admire a street fighter with a round body of pure fat and fury? This newly announced contender would be difficult to miss, both because of his size and his remarkably fashionable outfit. Really, he should be on the cover of SFIV when it comes out. (It’s going to be on consoles! Didn’t you know?)

Oh, and Capcom officially announced another guy recently, too. El Fuerte or something. He apparently thinks looking like a bona fide wrestler is manly enough. Just wait’ll he gets a whiff of Rufus, literally. Then he’ll know what a real man smells and looks like.

The legend returns, albeit without online love.

This evening, Namco released new gamplay footage of Soulcalibur, one of Namco’s most sensational titles set to make its debut for the Xbox Live Arcade. The new footage reveals the classic 3D fighter’s graceful transition in HD bliss. Diehard fans should expect a faithful port, joined by the standard arcade, survival and training modes. The XBLA edition will also include an online leaderboard, which will be the only aspect of competitive flair fans can look forward to other than having to settle for local sessions. Yeah, we’re not too thrilled about that either but it’s still going to be exciting to revisit an all-time favorite. Look forward to its release this summer.

Enjoy the short video montage of Soulcalibur featuring personal favorites like Taki, Ivy, Kilik, Maxi and more. Oh and we wanted to embed the video but our skills to do that have gone rusty.

Now the excitement truly begins.

Viewers who tune in to watch the CBS EliteXC Saturnay Night Fights will be treated to the first-ever television commercial of Street Fighter IV. The program is scheduled to air this Saturday, May 31 at 9pm. According to the press release, the trailer will make its debut immediately following the bout on the StreetFighter.com (featuring a countdown to the trailer set to run simultaneously with the commercial) along with an official GameStop prorder campaign for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. All customers who receive a limited-edition collectable Street Fighter Tribute artbook, illustrated by top artists from the comic book and video game industries.

It just keeps better guys - we can’t wait to finally get our personal hands-on session with SFIV this year at E3.

Editor’s Thoughts: Back when the game was still in its 2% phase, it was hard to keep my optimism up. However, all the recent updates that’s revealed a massive rehaul of Chun Li and Ryu’s designs, new original characters and an upcoming announcement to follow on May 30 has clearly made raised my enthusiasm beyond words.

We knew it was coming, no really.

Ryu and SagatSlow news day? I guess you can say that. In any event, while this news probably won’t come too much of a surprise for most, it still deserves a mention. Capcom has officially confirmed Street Fighter IV for consoles and PC.

(pauses)

Yes, I know that seems like common sense that one of the most anticipated release would eventually have to make the jump from the arcade to the console, right? Of course - it’s just that up till now, everything has been speculation. Well now the theories can be put to rest because SFIV is in development for Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC. (Looks like the Wii isn’t getting any love, at least for now).

That’s just about it. Sorry guys. I was hoping the news was going to come with some new gameplay footage, details of more hidden characters, anything that would create a bigger buzz than the obvious. I guess they’re holding out until E3. I hope you’re reading this Capcom, this gamer is starved for some new JUICY tidbits.

In other news, Super SF2 Turbo HD Remix is allegedly going to be included as a playable demo with . I can’t wait for that, and yes, expect full hands-on impressions to follow!

Capcom revives a few more killer franchises.

I remember as a kid playing Commando at the local Pizza Hut.  The controls were stiff and the bullets were tiny.  I don't think I ever made it past the first stage.  Then MERCS came along to the arcade just across the street, and it seemed like insane destruction and top down blasting action for me and two other Rambo-wannabes until we ran out of quarters.  Capcom has been on a trend of reviving their nearly forgotten gems to the delight of former arcade junkies, with the latest offering of Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 for XBLA and PSN.  Outside of the more cartoonish gleam, the latest footage shows a game that sticks surprisingly close to its roots, with a variety of scrolling, destructible environments for up to three players, both online and off.  The action is quick and furious, while the weapons are insane and highly destructive.  It's already looking better than the upcoming pretender to the throne, Assault Heroes 2, though both pale next to what else Capcom has up its sleeve.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix has been a long time in coming, but hey it takes a long time to draw all those frames at 1080p.  They must be close to release now, however, because coming with Commando 3 will be an online beta of SSF2THDR (on XBLA at least).  Yeah, it's only going to be Ken and Ryu, but outside of seeing how high Chun-li still kicks, they were going to be your first picks anyway.  This is a series that kicks in even more nostalgia, but these new visuals are a lot better than I remember, while the rebalanced mode should end cries of cheap among friends.  Maybe it'll even stop the droppers online.
