2.2 Categories - At some point during the composition, you should have a general idea where your content will be categorized. Yes, there’s actually a small process to this and fortunately, it’s quite easy to understand. Content will be tagged under a specific parent category, listed as follows…

Articles - General gaming-related topics go here. Currently there are several categories that should help you to further narrow down the topics. Please note: depending on the frequency of content published, a sub-category populated under this category is subject to removal and placed into a default parent category.

Contests - Promotional announcements featuring giveaways as they’re announced are published here.

Entertainment - Come here to read about comics, film & television, anime, DVDs, etc.

Games - All gaming specific content can be found here ranging from console, handheld, PC, retro and freeware.

The author must then carefully select the appropriate sub-category which will help readers to effectively filter the content. In short, to narrow things down.

When the post is published, the format will look present the Author’s Name, Parent Topic, Sub-Category … here’s an example. Please see Section 3.1 for tips, we’ll explore some useful tips as to what should be considered news and other worthy articles that should be published.

2.3 Working with Media (Images, Video, Audio and Music)

UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Check back soon.

Uploading images was a bit of an awkward experience for early adopters who used this section back in 2006. Now uploading (and editing) images is easier than ever.

The most common media that authors will upload and/or edit is images. The option to also add video, audio files and music is available, but we’ll focus our attention mostly around Images for now.

Place your mouse over the first icon to the left of “Add Media” to access the Upload tool.

First a quick introduction for the uninitiated…

1. This navigation menu by default will have Choose File highlighted. Gallery is typically used to retrieve or edit recent uploads. Media Gallery allows you access all entire collection of pictures which exist on the server.

2. Click this button to upload pictures from your PC.

3. Enter the IMG location of a valid image file (.gif, .jpg, etc.) available on the net. This option should typically not be abused as many sites strictly prohibit users from hotlinking images. Then you end up with big X’s which looks silly. Use discretion and save images to your PC then upload whenever possible.

4. This area controls the location of how the image will be inserted within your post. (Note, if you need more precise formatting, such as having the image aligned with a paragraph, use the Insert/Edit image (can be distinguished with the tree icon) located to the lower left of “Add Media”.)

5. The Insert in Post will allow you to (voila) place the image directly in the post. Keep track of where the cursor is located as the image will show up where it currently exists in the textarea box.

Once the image has been uploaded, the following options that handle the size of the image become available:

Thubmnail: Creates a very small thumbnail. Recommended use: when aligning the image within paragraphs.

Medium: Creates a moderately sized version of the original picture. Recommended use: for images intended for placement directly in the center of posts.

Original size: Display option in its (surprise) original size. Recommended use: small images which don’t exceed 200×200 pixels and are intended for placement directly in the center of posts.

Adding Video, Audio files and Media uses a similar process.

2.3b Using YouTube

If you’re planning to include a YouTube video directly in your post, create open/close tags with the words “youtube”. It’s exactly like using BBcode for those of you familiar with vBulletin and other popular commercial forums.

Protip: Keep the posts tasteful by the way, avoid publishing content that would end violate copyright laws and potentially threaten the continued operation of the site.
