Forget everything you used to remember about Sony's past E3 press conferences. This year's presentation put aside the sleep-inducing sales figures in favor of what's it's all about: the games. The PlayStation portfolio was surprisingly strong — enough to shut the mouths of naysayers who've been expecting the PS3 in particular to go belly up. And while the company kicks things up another notch for its next-gen system, they've made sure not to overlook their handheld market.
Yes, there's another PSP on the way, touting a more streamlined design along with some remarkable additions that's sure to pique the interest of any fence-sitters and early adopters of the first-generation model. The new video-out port is by far, one of the biggest highlights of the "PSP Lite", allowing players to finally enjoy their gaming and multimedia experiences on their TV. The new PSP will also provide reduced load times during gameplay, thanks to a new enhanced featured which temporarily stores game data from the UMD. Taking a page from their Japanese counterparts, North American consumers can look forward to three basic color options (Piano Black, Ceramic White, and Ice Silver). If I recall correctly, the last color will actually be sold as a bundle package for the newest addition to the Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron franchise (Chewie even made a guest appearance this year and gave his personal blessing, heh). Look for its debut in North America, Europe and Japan this September.
