ESPN NFL 2K5 (Xbox, PS2) by Visual Concepts

Quite possibly the best football game ever made. Incredible presentation, jaw-dropping graphics, and a deep franchise mode means it's in my Xbox 24/7. The VIP mode alone is enough to keep you playing for hours, as unlocking new stuff to decorate your crib is tons of fun. The Milestone Challenges are great for those who want a deep single-player experience and the online play gives you plenty of chances to take on friends around the world. Simply breathtaking.

Dora the Explorer (Say what?!?)

Having a energy-filled toddler around the house leaves little time for the cinema, so TV is the way to go at my house. I never thought I could enjoy Dora the Explorer until I started watching it with my daughter and I must say, this show rocks. Bilingual characters wandering the world with a talking backpack and a monkey sidekick? Sign me up! It's a great show for children and parents to enjoy together and really does a good job of teaching vocabulary in both English and Spanish. Did I mention it has monkeys?

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

I just recently picked up The Outsiders again and it simply never ceases to amaze me. Quite possibly the definitive teenage tragedy, its unique ability to identify with youth trancends its '60's setting and puts it among the best books ever written for adolescents. It's filled with angst, love, pride; all the convoluted range of emotions that we have to endure at that age, with some serious drama to bring it all together. The movie is good but the novel is definitely a timeless classic. The best part? You can get a new copy for under $6.

Sega Rally (Saturn) by Sega

Comparing this to Gran Turismo 4 makes you stop and think just how far games have come in such a short period of time; a friend, watching me play, mistook shadows cast on the road for oil slicks. "Game Over, YEAAAAAH!!!!!"

Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law created by Michael Ouwelee

Say what you will about Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab (both excellent shows in their own right), but Harvey Birdman manages to continue the "old school" Hanna-Barbara premise that fuels Adult Swim while delving into its own surreal territory. Look for impromptu cuts to live action, 70's style scene transitions, and Daily Show alumni Stephen Colbert as Birdman's eye patched boss, Phil Ken Sebben.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

In two words, absolutely insane. In more words, it's a book that can be appreciated on a number of levels, but for my first reading, what struck me about it was how many tricks Danielewski thinks of to draw you in, to get inside your head. Originally published as a series of documents on the internet, House of Leaves is many things, but forgettable is not one of them.

Silent Hill 2 & Silent Hill 3 OST

With Silent Hill 4's release only a few days away, you too can get in the mood by turning out the lights, turning up the fog machine, listening to Akira Yamaoka's previous compositions, and otherwise creeping yourself the hell out with these atmospheric scores.
